As I already had screens set up for producing prints which was my original brief prior to our critique I was able to produce a couple of prints on my chosen stock which informed be as to whether my initial idea to print the design in black ink on patterned stock worked.
Unfortunately due to the size of my screen I had chosen I was not able to use the vacuum bed. There should be a hands width around the design in order to give a decent print on the vacuum bed which I had not left and therefore I had to use the printing board so that my screen would lay flat against the stock. This is something that I can take and learn from when producing the final outcomes for this brief.
Overall I am pleased with the final prints which I have produced, although it was suggested in the critique I should consider pulling out one of the colours within the stock in which to print the design in having tested out the black ink I like the stark contrast between the soft pastel stocks and black ink. It always feels as if it has the design had been drawn directly on which is an aesthetic which I like.
Upon my second attempt at printing, I had a few difficulties with ink seeping through onto my stock, however this is something I can easily resolve by cropping the design down.
I believe this particular design works well on this stock, I like how the type aligns with the horizontal lines of the stock this is aesthetically pleasing.
REVISED BRIEF:
Design
and produce a range of printed ephemera such as prints, postcards and greetings card etc. which put an emphasis on interaction with the audience for The London Design Museum gift shop the outcomes should celebrate British design and London Culture itself.
One of the main points raised in the feedback I received from our initial crit was how the audience would engage with the design outcome, therefore I have revised my original brief from creating a range prints to putting more of a emphasis on the purpose of the outcome and how it would be interacted with rather than 'how nice it can look'.
Following this revision of the brief I feel a lot more confident moving forward, when devising my statement of intent and aims for this year the idea of creating 'interactive' pieces of design was something I wanted to focus upmost on.
